Another use for burlap inner covers. Setting up extra feed. We have been using burlap as inner covers first with our custom mating NUCS. Many advantages, but especially the ability to “roll” back to only release bees on one side. That lead to using with 2 x 5 mating NUCS in regular Langstroth. As we went away from any top entrances or to; ventilation we started using for all our production colonies. The bees will Propolize quite nicely. We previously made our own dried sugar cake in muffin tins as insurance or spring feed. That was around using ventilating top covers and 3 inch pvc through insulation. This experiment is using rigid insulation to create a dam. There is clear tape to block wind / insect passage. A few cuts into the burlap along to paper combine. We use nothing but heavily insulated custom telescopic covers, so this allows a very minimal heat loss to do a quick peak. Pictured is one of our II breeder queens selected for chewed mites on the bottom boards. Sugar was added 6 days ago. With the crazy warm weather in the pacific north west thought might be a good time for an experiment. #vshqueens #ensurehivefuture #treatmentfreebees #instrumentalinsemination #iiqueens ... FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMay 20, 2023Ensure Hive Future Celebrates World Bee Day Expanding Its Local Rooftop Beekeeping Program Promoting Honeybee Sustainability, Education and the Environment.Vancouver, BC — To celebrate International World Bee Day, Ensure Hive Future is expanding its sustainable beekeeping program to include even more local Vancouver rooftops this year. “We are pleased to be continuing our partnerships with Bean Around The World Coffee Roastery and Hollyburn Properties in participation with their environmentally responsible mandate for sustainability over the long term, and we have expanded this year to also include the rooftops of United Way and the Mountain Equipment Company Vancouver Store as well,” according to Iain Glass, Executive Director at Ensure Hive Future. “We will be providing locally adapted bees and education for not only Hollyburn Properties residents and these additional local businesses, but a worldwide audience as well. Together, our goal is to set a new sustainable standard for property management within Canada and beyond.”Native pollinators are in decline and merely replacing them with imported bees from other countries does not address the underlying problems. “We will follow the lives of our colonies throughout the season and host regular education opportunities for the local community,” continues Glass. “Additionally, we will be sharing our educational outreach and research for locally adapted Better Bees.” Ensure Hive Future is also employing summer students to further educate and support the local beekeeping community, and for the first time this year EHF will be participating in the local Lonsdale and Ambleside Artisan Farmers Markets selling local honey and sharing its love of beekeeping with these communities as well.About Ensure Hive Future:Ensure Hive Future is a federally incorporated not-for-profit dedicated to apiary research and education. About Bean Around The World Coffees:Since the beginning, we sought out the best beans and the best people that the coffee industry had to offer. People seem to appreciate that, and we’ve been growing ever since. We’ve now got 23 locations around the Lower Mainland and a bounty of loyal coffee subscribers who get their beans by delivery.About Hollyburn Properties:Hollyburn Properties Limited is a Canadian property management, real estate investment and purpose-built rental development company.
